An Unlikely Journey
Home. It's where you start from - but it's rarely where you end up.

Especially if you're a refugee.

Elaine fled Vietnam when she was just 19. One of the millions of so-called Vietnamese Boat People. After 30 years in Sunnyvale, a pretty California town surrounded by groves of fruit trees, she wonders if her real home is waiting for her back in what was Saigon.

The documentary Our Saigon follows Elaine on an epic journey with her American born daughters Jo, Iris and Jenny - retracing her steps from war-torn Saigon to the Indonesian refugee camp and on to a tiny Mennonite community in Virginia before finally settling in the South Bay Area near San Francisco.

The daughters provide a lively Greek chorus, commenting on every twist and turn of their mom's story.

Combined with stunning Astronaut photography, harrowing 1960s French radio reports, beautiful archival maps and a philosophical narrator - Our Saigon looks and feels like no other documentary.
